Lead Bioinformatics
Profile
Exsegen Genomics is seeking a Ph.D.-level bioinformatician with 5 – 10 years of postdoctoral or industry experience in computational genomics and data analysis. The ideal candidate combines leadership and scientific depth with a strong hands-on programming ability and the drive to build solutions from the ground up in a startup environment.
You will lead bioinformatics development for our NGS-based diagnostic and translational genomics programs, collaborating closely with clinicians, molecular biologists, and data scientists.
Bioinformatics
- NGS data processing pipeline development and automation – somatic mutation calls, variant annotation, CNV calls, expression quantification, fusion calls, isoform detection
- Experience with genomic/transcriptomic/methylation data analysis and interpretation
Data science
- Languages/concepts – python, R, PCA, clustering, regression
- Tools/modules – jupyter notebooks, pandas, numpy, scikit-learn, scipy, matplotlib, seaborn
Programming
- Languages – python, R, shell scripting
- Tools/modules – git, VS code, anaconda, pytest
- Software development/testing
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and validation of NGS analysis pipelines covering variant calling, CNV detection, fusion discovery, expression, and methylation analysis.
- Supervise and mentor a growing bioinformatics team while remaining actively involved in coding, debugging, and analysis.
- Integrate multi-omics datasets and contribute to algorithm development for biomarker discovery and clinical applications.
- Write, optimize, and maintain code for bioinformatics workflows and automation
- Work independently in a startup setting and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Qualification
Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, or related field.
Experience
- 5 – 10 years of relevant postdoctoral or industry experience.
- Proven expertise in NGS data analysis and pipeline development, with strong coding and debugging skills.
- Ability to design and implement computational workflows from raw data to result interpretation.
- Track record of hands-on contributions and leadership in bioinformatics projects.
- Strong publication record and familiarity with translational or clinical genomics preferred.
